Eval Comments:
- \"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\"
He was fearfully defensive in the kennel, snapping at the leash. Once leashed, he exited the kennel without issue. He required a go-slow approached being collared by the runner in the catch pen and is head shy. He entered the play yard with concerned eyes and a tucked tail. He was approached by a female terrier that stretched out to sniff him. He remainedtolerant of her sniffing him, but he had concerned eyes. When she lingered in his face, he gave an appropriate show of teeth warning for space. He began to pace around the yard looking for an exit. He would create space from the other dogs whenever possible. After a short time, he stopped pacing and began to become more tolerant of calm dogs approaching him and sniffing him. After a while longer, he continued to grow in confidence and began to approach other dogs to sniff them. He remained more confident and was social with the other dogs for the rest of his time in the yard. He still appeared more comfortable around the calmer dogs and more wary of the higher energy dogs. There were dogs playing during his time in the yard, but he did not engage in or entice any play. With a go-slow approach, he would approach the handlers in the yard and seek some affection. Grizzly is social with the other dogs, but he displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog.

He was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. He was given a moment to acclimate to his surroundings. The handler knelt and called to him, and he approached with soft body language. He allowed the handler to pet his head and to check his ears, but he required a go-slow approach. He allowed the handler to check his teeth. When the handler touched any of his paws, he had concemed eyes and would pull them away. He was retumed to his kennel without issue. He displayed no negative or conceming behavior toward the handler during the handing, but he is very timid and need a go-slow approach. He is wary of faster movements and can be head shy. Due to his need for a go-slow approach, he would do best in an adult only home.
