NEW ASSESSMENT
BALDWIN PARK
A5737690
The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
Dino A5737690 (Intact) was lying down on his bed but stood upon the runner?s arrival. He eagerly barked at the runner,
waiting to be retrieved. He was easily leashed and bolted out of the kennel. Dino proceeded to walk ahead of the runner with
a strong pull on the leash, bypassing his neighbors. Inside the catch pen, he was collared and leashed, though requiring firm
leash control to keep him still during the process. Once inside the yard, Dino exchanged greetings with the dogs, exhibiting a
neutral body posture. Following the introduction, he moved on to explore the environment, sniffing the dogs he met along
the way. Dino began to display an assertive response toward the dogs who attempted to engage in rough play with him,
facing them in a confrontational stance, though he was easily steered away. Dino continued wandering around the yard,
showing no interest in engaging in play with the other dogs. When near the handlers, he allowed himself to be petted. For the
rest of the session, Dino coexisted peacefully with everyone in the yard. Once the session concluded, he was moved to the
side yard to begin his handling assessment. Dino could benefit from continued socialization in a yard with calm dogs, as this
may allow him to interact at his own comfort level.

Dino A5737690 (Intact) was allowed to decompress prior to the assessment. The handler was able to conduct a full
evaluation without incident, as he displayed social behavior by constantly jumping on the handler. Dino allowed his ears,
mouth, stomach, tail, and legs to be handled, though he exhibited slight discomfort when his hind legs were examined,
closing his mouth and licking his lips. His body expressed a neutral posture, with a relaxed tail, a soft gaze, a natural ear set,
and an open-mouth pant. Once the session concluded, he was returned to his kennel without issue. Dino showed no major
concerning behavior; nonetheless, a slow introduction is recommended as it may allow him to become more comfortable
around people.
