\"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\"
She was barer reactive at the kennel gate, but backed off and displayed fearful behavior once the gate was opened. She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She became barrier reactive toward the dogs through the fence, growling, barking, and lunging to bite at them. The dogs were backed away from the fence and then put into an adjoining section of the yard. Only two very social helper dogs were left in the yard, to gauge her reaction to other dogs. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by a social male Pitbull to greet her. She tolerated him sniffing her side for a few seconds. She then growled and lunged toward him. Heretreated away from her, and she began charging at him, growling and snapping. A handler nearby was able to step on her leash and she was removed from the yard at this time. Due to her behavior in the yard and severe reactivity, she would do best as an only dog in the home.
