ASSESSMENT
BALDWIN PARK
A5741088
?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Heidis A5741088 greeted the runner with a slightly tense body, his eyes were concerned with dilated pupils, his mouth was
closed, his tail was tucked, and his ears were down. The runner coaxed him, he was able to slowly leash him, he walked out
of the kennel on his own and walked alongside the runner. In the catch pen when he was introduced to the dogs his body was
low, his eyes were concerned, his tail was tucked, and his mouth was closed. He was wary to be collared and leashed. He
entered the yard and was uncomfortable during his greetings. He kept to himself. He sat near the exit door. He tensed up a
few times with the dogs who sniffed him. He slightly challenged the dogs anytime they hovered around him. He kept his
distance from the handlers. Anytime the handlers walked near him he would nervously walk away. He remained
uncomfortable and wary of the dogs the entire time. He was moved to the side yard to proceed with his handling assessment.

Heidis A5741088 was moved to the side yard to proceed with his handling assessment. He was wary of the handler. Anytime
she walked near him, he would walk away, his body was tense, his eyes were concerned, his tail was tucked, and his mouth
was closed. The handler used the leash to move him closer to her. He remained nervous, she coaxed him and began to gently
pet him. His body flinched anytime she touched him, his eyes were wide, and his pupils were dilated, his mouth was closed,
and his tail was tucked. He curled his lip when the handler reached to grab his back legs, the handler coaxed him and gently
attempted to grab his back leg once again, he whipped his head around and curled his lip. The handler at this point stopped
the assessment to no further overwhelm him. When taking him back to the kennels he refused to enter, the handler had to use
gentle leash pressure to guide him back inside. Due to handling sensitivity Heidis will be rescue only.
