The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
Tiger A5451273 (Altered) was easily retrieved from his kennel and then led to the catch pen, where he was collared and
leashed without issue. Once inside the yard, Tiger exchanged greetings with the dogs, exhibiting a stiff body posture with
hackles raised. His demeanor made some of the dogs uncomfortable as he continued to stare at them assertively. As a
precaution, Tiger was shifted to the side yard, and a muzzle was placed before being allowed to return. Tiger chose to remain
next to the handlers, occasionally soliciting affection from them. Tiger tolerated the dogs from a distance; however, he
would lunge toward any of the dogs that wandered into his proximity for too long. This behavior was easily steered, as he
would pause with a verbal correction. For the rest of the session, Tiger continued to isolate himself from the other dogs,
preferring socialization with the handlers, with a neutral body posture. Once the session concluded, his muzzle was removed
before being returned to his kennel.
