The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
Zero A4996346 (Altered) was at the front of the kennel, alertly barking with a slightly tense posture upon the handler?s
arrival. He was wary about the leash, backing away or constantly moving his head. After multiple attempts, Zero was leashed
and retrieved from his kennel. He was led to a quiet area, where a full evaluation was conducted without incident, though
Zero appeared very uncomfortable during the process. He stood with a tense body posture, avoiding eye contact while the
handler examined his ears, mouth, stomach, tail, and legs. The rest of his body displayed a low tail, ears pinned back, and a
closed mouth with occasional lip licking. Once the session concluded, he was returned to his kennel without issue. Due to his
nervous nature, Zero could benefit from confidence-building training and a calm environment, as this may allow him to
adjust more comfortably. Slow introductions are highly recommended to help him become familiar with people.
