?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may
change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.?
Domingo greeted the runner with a relaxed body and a friendly demeanor. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel,
pulled strongly on leash, and was easy to collar. One of the handlers used the leash to gently restrain him while the other
handler presented a toy. Domingo immediately focused on the toy, sitting up with bright eyes and a fast wag. He caught the
toy when the handler tossed it to him, and immediately began ripping the stuffing out of the toy. He hovered over the toy
with a neutral body, and allowed the handler to touch his head, neck, back, face, and paws. He would not release the toy, but
did not growl, bark, or try to bite when the handler touched the toy with the Assess-A-Hand. He did not release the toy until
the handler presented a bowl of food. He immediately sat down, keeping his attention on the food with intense focus. The
handler was able to remove the toy before placing the bowl in front of Domingo. He immediately shoved his nose deep into
the bowl, eating very quickly while hovering over the bowl. Using the Assess-A-Hand, the handler was able to pet him all
over. He remained focused on the food, but the handler was able to touch and take the bowl away with the Assess-A-Hand.
Domingo kept his focus on the bowl, and quickly devoured the food when the bowl was returned to him. He remained
focused on the bowl once the food was gone, but the handler was able to move the bowl away with the Assess-A-Hand
before picking it up with her own hand. Once the bowl was removed from the yard, Domingo was allowed to freely roam the
yard. He explored for several minutes, occasionally soliciting petting from the handlers before he was eventually returned to
his kennel.

Domingo greeted the handler eagerly and was easy to leash/remove from the kennel. Domingo was taken to the catch pen
and was easy to collar/leash soliciting petting during the process. Domingo greeted the dogs at the barrier eagerly and was
allowed into the play yard. Domingo displayed a loose wiggly body, open mouth pant, natural ear set, loose tail wag, and
soft eyes. Domingo exchanged greetings nicely then moved on to explore the play yard. Domingo continued to explore the
yard and socialize nicely. He exchanged play bows but when starting to play appeared overwhelmed. Domingo was shifted
to the adjacent yard with calm gentle/dainty dogs. Domingo appeared much more at ease and continued to socialize nicely.
Domingo continued to roam and socialize nicely although he occasionally did mount some of the dogs. He was easily
steered using verbal corrections and continued to socialize nicely. Domingo approached the handlers several times soliciting
petting from them with a loose wiggly demeanor. Domingo maintained a relaxed and social demeanor displaying no
playstyle at this time. Placement pending additional assessment.
