A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Austin A5750082 was on the inside of the kennel when the handler approached him, he noticed her and he greeted her with a slightly tense body, his pupils were dilated, his mouth was closed and his tail was slightly high with no wag. The handler coaxed her, he sniffed her, his body became neutral. He was interested, he wanted to exit the kennel but was slightly wary of the leash. After a few attempts the handler was able to leash him. He exited the kennel on his own and moderately pulled on leash. He entered the yard and began exploring. He allowed the handler to pet him, his eyes were alert, his tail was neutral with no wag, his ears were alert and his mouth was closed. He licked his lips when the handler grabbed his feet. He was nervous but remained tolerant. He sniffed her a few times, he was avoidant of making direct eye contact anytime she pet him but he would occasionally side eye her. Overall, Austin was tolerant of being pet, he displayed no aggression during his handling but due to his anxious behavior he will require slow introductions and confidence building. Behaviorally ok for public adoption, adults only recommended.
