Eval Comments: The behaviors described to day reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
She had soft eyes and was seeking affection as the runner easily clasped the collar around her neck. She had a neutral tail wag and soft eyes while greeting several dogs through the play yard fence. She came in the yard calmly and approached several dogs, exchanging good greetings with a loose body. Rin was exchanging a good greeting with a calm female pit bull.
Suddenly the pit bull became playful and tried enticing play. Rin was not comfortable with the energy, growling and air snapping twice to war the pit bull for space. The waming was respected and the two separated. She then spent the next few minutes calmly roaming the yard, keeping to herself. She continued exchanging good greetings with calm dogs, but if the other dog lingered near her muzzle for too long, she would become tense with hackles raised. She then approached a handler to solicit affection, nudging his hand with her nose and licking him. She appeared to relax with other dogs who had been in the yard, tolerating them lingering near her muzzle for longer periods of time. She was wary of new dogs coming up near her face and would lightly growl to wam them for space. She was much more wary and quicker to wam new dogs who came up to greet her. She prefers calm dogs and was much more tolerant with the dogs after having interacted with them. She needs further socialization. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, CALM DOGS (REQ), LOW ENERGY
