Description
🔥 MEET CALYPSO 🔥
Calypso is a vibrant, high-energy girl with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life! 🐶✨ She greets people with a wiggly body, soft eyes, and a happy tail wag, and she?s easy to leash and handle. She loves human attention and happily allows full-body pets and handling (even ear and teeth checks!) when approached calmly. 💕
On leash, Calypso is strong and enthusiastic, always ready for adventure! 🌪️ She can become highly aroused and reactive around other dogs, showing assertive behavior and barrier frustration. Because of this, she would thrive best as the only dog in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention. 🏡💖
Calypso would greatly benefit from continued impulse-control training and structured guidance to help her channel her energy in positive ways. With leadership, consistency, and plenty of exercise, she has so much potential to shine! 🌟

The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
Calypso A5753220 (Intact) was easily retrieved from her kennel and led the way to the catch pen with a strong pull on the
leash, sniffing her neighboring kennels along the way. Once inside the catch pen, she became reactive at the fence, lunging
and barking at the dogs in the yard. Calypso?s behavior was redirected with a verbal correction, and she allowed herself to
be collared and leashed without issue. Calypso was allowed to enter the yard and greeted the dogs assertively by hovering
over them, which triggered a minor scuffle. Calypso and the other dog were easily steered apart with a correction tool. Once
settled, she moved on to explore the environment; however, she continued to display assertive behavior as she crossed paths
with some of the dogs, so as a precaution, Calypso was muzzled. She was corrected once again due to her reactivity at the
barrier, barking and growling at the dogs entering through the catch pen. The session ended early as Calypso was unable to
coexist peacefully with the dogs. She was shifted to the side yard, where she was allowed to decompress before being
returned to her kennel. Due to her offensive responses toward other dogs, Calypso could benefit from impulse-control
training and a home without other dogs.

Calypso greeted the runner with a wiggly body, soft eyes, an open pant, and a loose tail wag. She was easy to leash and
remove from the kennel, pulled strongly on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. She entered the
side to decompress for a few moments before the handling assessment. She barked, growled, and lunged at the other dogs
whenever they approached the fence. She relaxed slightly when the handler entered the yard. She followed the handler
around the yard, barking anxiously. She had a high energy level, and was a bit difficult to handle at first. The handler was
able to gently restrain her with the leash. She allowed the handler to pet her head, neck, back, sides, and abdomen. The
handler was able to check her ears and teeth, and touch her tail. She was slightly tense when the handler tried to touch her
paws, but allowed the handler to touch all four feet when the handler moved slowly. She remained extremely aroused by the
other dogs, but allowed the handler to conduct the assessment with no issues.
