\"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\"
She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with concered eyes and a low tail. She was approached by two dogs. She tolerated them both sniffing her, but she had concemed eyes and a tucked tail. After the dogs broke away, she began to roam the yard and explore. She was wary of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She was more tolerant of calm dogs approaching and sniffing her, but she was still wary and had concemed eyes. She remained very wary of slightly higher energy or playful dogs and would create space from them. After some time in the yard, she was approached by a social male Pitbull that greeted her. She gave a hard air snap warning and then backed up a couple of steps. He remained a few feet from her with soft body language and neutral tail wag. She remained looking at him and gave a show of teeth waning. The male Pitbull walked away, and Nova was removed from the yard a short time after this. Due to her uncomfortable and defensive behavior around dogs in the yard and an altercation with another dog in the previous home, she would likely do best as an only dog in the home. She will also require a known history of aggression disclosure form for the incident in the previous home.

She was taken to the catch pen after play group for the handling assessment. The handler knelt and called to her and she approached slowly. She allowed the handler to pet her head with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her teeth with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her ears with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch and lift all her paws with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch her tail with no reaction. Although she allowed all areas to be touched, she had concemed eyes and is wary of faster movements. Due to her need for a slower approach, she would likely do best in an adult only home or with older respectful kids.
