Eval Comments:
"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from howthey behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He is not leash trained. The handler muzzled him and used a towel to carry him to the catch pen. He was given a moment to acclimate to his surroundings. The handler called to him, but he would not approach. The handler slowly came up to him and spent a few minutes trying to build trust with him. The handler slowly touched his back and he flinched. He stood frozen with concemed eyes. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his teeth but tumed his head away. When the handler touched his tail, he pulled it away and sat down. When the handler touched his back paw, he pulled it away. When the handler touched his front paw, he pulled it slightly away. After his handling he stood frozen against the wall as the handler continued to pet his back. The handler muzzled him and picked him up with a towel to retum him to his kennel. He will need some who will go slow with him, to build his trust and confidence. He also needs leash training. Due to his need for a go-slow approach and handling sensitivities, he wil need an adult only home.
