Eval Comments:
"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from howthey behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a female Pitbull. He tolerated her sniffing him, but he did not retum the greeting. He was then approached by a male Doberman mix and displayed the same tolerant behavior. He began to roam the yard and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. He continued to tolerate dogs approaching and sniffing him, but he did not retum the greetings.
After some time, he began to approach other dogs and exchange soft greetings with them He offered a play bowto a female pitbull, and they engaged in gentle/dainty play. He remained playful and social for the rest of his time in the yard. He would approach the handlers and seek affection. Bear is social with the other dogs and prefers a gentle/dainty play style. See handling assessment for further stipulations.

He was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. The handler knelt and called to him. He approached the handler with soft body language and beganto seek affection. He allowed the handler to pet his head with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his teeth with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch all his paws with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch his tail with no reaction. He displayed no negative or conceming behavior toward the handler, but he is timid and does best with a go-slow approach. With a go-slow approach and some trust building, he does begin to seek affection. He is wary of faster movements and gets startled by sudden sounds. He was retumed to his kennel without issue. Due to his need for a go-slow approach and confidence building, he would do best in an adult only home. He will also need a known istory of aggression disclosure for for a prior incident in the previous home.

Aresource guarding assessment was conducted to make sure food was not a trigger for his barking and growling, during a pnor incident of sweeping up spilled food. He showed no interested in the food and showed no signs of resource guarding behavior. He did have a light body tremble with the presence of the assess-a-hand. So, it is possible he may have been fearful of the broom dunng the sweepmg mcident.
