"The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences." He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a female cattle dog. He tolerated her sniffing him, but he was tense with a high tail and hackles raised. He was then approached by a male shepherd and displayed the same tolerant, but tense behavior. He was then approached by a male cattle dog and displayed the same behavior again. After these greetings, he began to roam the yard to himself and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. After a while, he appeared to relax more around the other dogs and was less tense of them sniffing him. A short time later, he continued to relax further and began to exchange soft greetings with other dogs. A female Pitbull approached him and playfully pawed at him to entice play. He gave her a growl waming to this and she walked away. He remained more social and relaxed around the calm dogs. But he continued to show more tense behavior around the higher energy dogs or dogs trying to entice play. He would approach the handlers and seek affection. He would do best with a calm dog that will respect his space and boundaries. He will also need socialization to walking on a leash.
