'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.'
Addie was on the outside of the kennel, and would not move to the inside until the runner stepped out of sight. Addie moved
inside, and the runner closed the divider door. She was at the back of the kennel with a tense body, concerned eyes, ears
back, and a tucked tail. She curled her lips and bared her teeth when the runner opened the kennel door. The runner gently
tossed the leash over her head, and she immediately began to flail and bite the leash. The runner was able to calm her down
and coax her out of the kennel. She required gentle pressure on the leash to walk, and tried to hide behind every object she
passed on her way to the yard. She was nervous while being collared, but the runner moved slowly and was able to collar her
with no issues. She did not greet the other dogs while in the catch pen. She low crawled into the yard, and immediately hid
under one of the dogs who turned out to be her former housemate. She kept her distance from the other dogs, but did engage
in gentle play with her housemate. She used him as a shield from the other dogs, but also tried to chase the dogs away from
him. When her housemate was removed from the yard, she hid under the table and did not interact with the other dogs. She
displayed a timid demeanor for most of her time in the yard. Addie is defensive with the other dogs, has a low energy level,
and does not have a playstyle at this time.

Addie was already in the yard when the handler decided to begin the handling assessment. She was moved to the side yard,
and given a few moments to decompress before the handler entered the yard. She displayed a timid demeanor, and remained
tense and uncomfortable throughout the entire assessment. She allowed the handler to pet her whole body with no issues, but
was unable to relax. When the assessment was over, she stayed frozen in place until the handler moved away from her.
