Eval Comments:
- "The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences."
He was fearfully defensive in the kennel, air snapping at the leash, when the runner was trying to loop leash him. Once on leash, he exited the kennel willingly. He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He approached a female Pitbull and exchanged a soft greeting with her. He was then approached by a male Pitbull and exchanged a soft greeting with him. He began to roam the yard and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. He continued to roam the yard and exchange soft greetings with the other dogs. He tolerated dogs playfully pawing at him to entice play and offered no corrections, but he declined the invitations to play. He tolerated a male Pitbull mounting him and offered no corrections. The handlers steered the male away for him. After some time, he did briefly become playful with a female shepherd. He remained social with all the dogs for the rest of his time in the yard. He would approach one of the handers when called and sought affection, but he can be a little wary of faster movements. Mark is social with the other dogs and prefers a gentle/dainty play style. See handling assessment for further stipulations.

He was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. The handler knelt and called to him. He approached with soft body language and began to seek affection. He allowed the handler to pet his head with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his teeth with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. When the handler touched his front paws, he would quickly pull them away. When the handler touched his tail, he tucked it down.
When the handler touched his back paws, he quickly pulled them away and looked back. He displayed no negative or concering behavior toward the handler, but he can be wary of faster movements at times. After the handling, he continued to seek affection. He was retumed to his kennel without issue. Due to his need for a slower approach and some handling sensitivities, he would do best in an adult only home.
