A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences." She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by two dogs at the same time and exchanged soft greetings with them both. After the dogs broke away, she beganto roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She continued to roam the yard and exchange soft greetings with the other dogs. She offered a play bowto a male Shepherd, and they engaged in gentle/dainty play. She remained playful and social with all the dogs. She would approach the handlers and seek affection. She attempted to entice play with a female Pitbull by pawing at her. The female Pitbull was not comfortable with the contact and gave an appropriate growl correction. Frannie did not respect the correction and had a negative reaction. She charged forward growling and snapped. The female Pitbull retreated from her, but Frannie pursued her. The female Pitbull ran out of room and ended up by the fence. Frannie growled, lunged, and began attacking her, pinning her down. Ahandler used the sound of a shaker can, but it did not break her focus. A second handler used the sound of an air hom, and it broke her focus temporarily: The female Pitbullran away to create space from her. Frannie attempted to pursue her to re-engage, but a handler was able to grab her leash. While on leash, Frannie attempted to pull toward the female Pitbull and was growing. Frannie was removed from the yard at this time. Although she displayed social behavior with other dogs, due to her not respecting and having an extreme offensive reaction to a correction from another dog, she would be best as an only dog in the home.
