A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences." She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen, but she had concemed eyes and a light body tremble. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She initially bypassed the other dogs and began to roam the yard to explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. After exploring the yard, she was approached by a male Rottweiler mix and exchanged a soft greeting with him. She was then approached by a female Pitbull and exchanged a soft greeting with her. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. She remained social with the other dogs for the rest of her time in the yard, but she began to seek an exit from the yard and jumping up at the fence. She was removed from the yard shortly after this, to prevent her trying to escape the yard. She would not approach the handlers in the yard and kept her distance. She is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time. See handling assessment for futher stipulations. The handler knelt and called to her, but she would not approach. The handler slowly approached her and picked up her leash. She allowed the handler to pet her head with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her teeth with no reaction. She allowed the handler to check her ears with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch all her paws with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch her tail with no reaction. Although she allowed all areas to be handled, she remained fearfully frozen and stress panting. She displayed no negative or conceming behavior toward the handler, but she is very timid and needs a go-slow approach. She was retumed to her kennel without issue. Due to her need for a go-slow approach and confidence building, she would do best in an adult only home. She will also need socialization to walking on a leash.
