A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from howthey behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on swroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He became banier reactive toward the other dogs through the fence, growling and with a high stiff tail. The other dogs were placed into an adjoining yard way from him. He entered the yard with soft body language. Only two dogs were let into the play yard, one at a time, to gauge his behavior. He was approached by a social fernale shepherd. When she was still at least 10 feet away, he began to growl, had a high stiff curved tail and a orward body posture. He remained focused on her with this body language and growling. She was not comfortable and would not approach any closer to him. She then walked away. A social male shepherd was then let into the yard and began to approach hm. When he was still at least 10 feet away, he began to growl, had a high stiff curved tail and a forward body posture. He remained focused on him with this body language and growling. When he got within about 6 feet of him, he began to growl louder and show his teeth. The male shepherd got a little closer within about 4 feet, but he gave him his side profile and was not even looking in this dog's direction. This dog began to growl louder, still showing teeth, began to bark and stomp his front paws. The male shepherd was not comfortable to approach him all the way and walked away. This dog continued to growl and remained focused on him until he walked futher away. Both dogs that approached him, approached in a very calm manner. Due to his overly defensive behavior, even when dogs were still a distance from him and not even facing him, he would do best as an only dog in the home.
