'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.'
Whiskey was jumping up and down at the front of the kennel with a wiggly body. He licked the runner's hand, and allowed
the runner to pet him through the kennel door. He was difficult to leash, and tried to dart out of the kennel as the runner
leashed him. He fence fought with his neighbor, but moved away on his own. He pulled strongly on leash, and was easy to
collar despite his high energy level. He was muzzled prior to entering the yard due to his reported history of animal
aggression. He entered the yard, and immediately rushed toward the other dogs. He tried to greet them with a very pushy
demeanor, but made the other dogs uncomfortable. He was easy to steer, and began to roam the yard. He panicked when the
noticed his muzzle, but was able to settle after a few moments. He continued to roam the yard, and solicited petting from the
handlers. He greeted the other dogs, and engaged in play with a playful female. He mounted the other dogs, but took their
corrections well. He immediately resumed play. As playgroup ended, his muzzle was removed and he was allowed to
interact with a small group of dogs. He continued to play nicely with the female dogs, and was able to coexist with the
males. He continued to solicit petting from the handlers. Whiskey is selective of the other dogs, has a high energy level, and
prefers a push/pull playstyle.
