'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.'
Rocky greeted the runner with a wiggly body, soft eyes, and a neutral tail wag. He was easy to leash and remove from the
kennel, briefly greeted his neighbors before moving away, pulled strongly on leash, and was easy to collar. In the catch pen,
his body was slightly tense, and he barked and curled his lips at the other dogs. He was able to settle after a few moments,
and entered the yard. He bypassed the other dogs without greeting them, and began to roam the yard with a neutral body. He
barked and paced the fence line with a tense body. When the dogs ran past him, he curled his lips and snapped at them. He
displayed hall monitor behaviors, and was over-reactive whenever the dogs approached him. He engaged in a few minor
altercations with the other males, but was easy to steer. Once he settled in and became more comfortable in the yard, he
began to offer appropriate corrections. He responded appropriately when one of the dogs corrected him after he mounted the
other dog. He roamed the yard with an open pant, soliciting petting from the handlers. Rocky is selective with the other
dogs, has a medium energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
