The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
She was relaxed with soft eyes as the runner easily clasped the collar around her neck. She then slowly approached the fence with a low head to greet the dogs. She froze and began growling while lip curling. A handler walked her in the yard on a long, loose leash. She focused on a male terrier who was standing on the other side of the yard. She began growling and lip curling. The handler walked her away, briefly exploring the yard. A few moments later, a calm male shepherd came up to greet her. She started growling and lip curling. As the shepherd stopped about five feet away from her, she lunged with an open mouth while growling. She briefly made contact as the handler pulled her back. She did not cause any injury as she grazed his muzzle. She was removed from the yard at this time. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, NO DOGS (REQ), LOW ENERGY
