**RESCUE ONLY**
Sam is a beautiful boy who unfortunately needs a special home. He has a multi-bite record that seems like it may stem from resource guarding.
Sam was originally surrendered to the shelter in December 2025 due to a bite incident. He was adopted in January and was just surrendered again on June 21, 2026 for another bite.
📌 June 2026 bite details: 'The victim had taken a toy away from dog and the dog lunged and bit the victim in the face. Left side of face 2 inch laceration w/3 stitches, rt cheek, had 3 puncture wounds with abrasions, tetanus and antibiotics, with 3 stitches were the care'
✅ January 2026 staff notes: 'Sam is a very obedient, eager-to-please good boy. He is easy to leash and bring in and out of his kennel. He could use a refresher on leash manners, as he tends to pull when he gets excited to be outside. Otherwise, he usually walks very well by your side and frequently looks back for direction. He knows how to sit, and his love for treats makes him a great candidate for training. In the yard, he loves to play with toys, knows how to fetch, and will bring the ball back to your hand. He also enjoys being petted and did well with handling of his mouth, ears, paws, and tail.'
🐶 We have not gotten to dog test Sam, but here are some brief dog notes from January 2026: 'I did not conduct a direct dog-to-dog test, as I was waiting for staff to be available to assist. However, we did encounter another large dog in the hallway. Sam and I waited off to the side for the dog to pass, and he did great by keeping his focus on me and taking treats. When the dog passed, it turned around to sniff Sam's face, and Sam gave a low growl but showed no further reaction. I redirected him with a treat, and he immediately broke focus and looked back at me. He showed no reaction to other dogs on the opposite side of the fence when I walked him out to the yards.'
Sam needs a prepared and experienced foster/rescue and likely a trainer to help him make better choices and thrive. If you can help, please reach out.
