Euthanasia Reason - Reason for euthanasia: Lucky (A2284439) has demonstrated severe, persistent, and unpredictable aggression toward people since impound, making him unsafe to handle despite behavior modification efforts, experienced handling, pharmaceutical intervention, and environmental management. At impound, Lucky aggressively charged officers, preventing safe access into the residence. Officers were required to use barriers to safely contain him, and he attempted to bite the microchip scanner. Throughout his shelter stay, he consistently growled, lunged, bared his teeth, and attempted to bite staff. Veterinary staff were unable to safely perform examinations despite Trazodone administration and the use of a basket muzzle. DPFL documented that Lucky required two experienced handlers, double leashes, back-tying techniques, and muzzling for routine handling. Even with these precautions, he repeatedly lunged at and attempted to bite handlers through the muzzle. Although social with other dogs, his aggression toward people remained unchanged. Daily observations found Lucky to be highly unpredictable, often accepting treats and appearing friendly before suddenly attempting to bite without warning. Despite repeated efforts to build trust through positive interactions, he has shown no behavioral improvement and continues to pose a significant safety risk to staff, volunteers, veterinary personnel, and the public. Due to his persistent, unpredictable aggression, inability to be safely handled for routine care, and lack of improvement despite intervention, humane euthanasia is justified in the interest of public and staff safety.
